The Botanist
"The Botanist" is a nonfiction book cover resign that I created as part of a LinkedIn challenge. I admit that I often judge books by their covers, and book covers are one of the biggest reasons I choose books. Because of this, I wanted to create a new one that would attract readers who focus on book cover appearance. To do so, I focused on colors, design and illustration styles typically seen on fiction books.

Process
Although this was a cover for a nonfiction book, I was inspired by fictional books to make the cover unique. I used bright colors to help it stand out and chose shades that match the pink flowers of the Siskiyou kalmiopsis bush featured in the book. I shortened the title to "The Botanist" to make it more interesting, and I also moved the image from the front to the back for a more eye-catching back design.
An alternate cover design features a blue flower pattern, elegant gold text and the full book title.
